The changes in our lives: Being in God's community

Now that we have accepted Jesus Christ as our personal lord and savior, we are now ready to join God's community. Having left the old religion, my family had to be in a place for those that shared the same belief as we do. We then looked around until a co-worker suggested this church.

We then prepared for our journey as new believers of the word. As we entered, we were greeted by a group of people very alive in worship. Then suddenly, we were filled with the Holy Spirit. We began to sing to the joyful praises. It was very different. I am very much happy with it. This was something very different from the way that I knew worship. Hymns and praises that penetrate the soul. It moves you.

The main service, where the pastor now speaks is also very different. Bible verses were quoted, thus we are compelled to bring our bible. We were now more than eager to study God's word. Towards the end of the service, I was approached by a gentleman and told me if I was available for Bible study. I said yes. I told him that if it's ok to bring my wife and kid. He said yes.

Our first bible study was good. The topic was about last Sunday's teaching. It was overwhelming. I shared my knowledge of the bible to other believers, Though we had our bible study in just an open area, I didn't mind it at first. However, some things were bound to happen.

The Sunday services were no problem. The pastors were really very good in expressing the topics. However, since the venue is in the mall, me and my wife sometimes spend because when we go home we will just be taking a rest. We sometimes eat lunch in there. Not to mention the transportation and travel is a bit difficult. But one thing that didn't sit well with me is the location of the bible study group. On the second week, we were still in the open area of the mall. It was very noisy and distracting that I find it hard to concentrate. I called the office and told them my concern. They said they will get back to me. I was also able to miss one of the meetings since my child was sick. When we got back, it was still in the same location. I called the office again and told them of my concern. The person told me that the bible study group can be held at any location in the discretion of the leader. I told her that there maybe some spare rooms that we can use. She still insisted on her answer.

This is the part that got me thinking. See, this is a mega church which boasts of a membership of almost 50,000. They have may locations, and where we are going is only one of them. I also surveyed the other rooms besides the main hall. So why can't they provide a room for us? Also, are they really spreading the gospel, or just recruiting people? I will cover this up in my next blog.

I told my wife that we will not be attending there anymore. Believe me, I will cover this in my next blog. We then attended the community church of our landlady. See, she also maintains a small community of believers. It is only a short walk from home, When we attended the service, we felt family. It was more intimate since there's only a few of us. She also visits us, and really cares for spiritual growth, not just membership and money.

I thank our Lord Jesus Christ for leading us to her. Not only did she provided us with a physical home, she also gave us a spiritual home. Now, my family has a new home.
