How to have that time with the Lord...Bible study!!!!
We all watch TV almost the whole day. Before I became a christian the TV was on for an estimate of around 2 hours weekdays to around 4 hours on weekends. Of course, it's not non-stop. The TV became the main source of information for and entertainment for us. It was also a time for the family to bond.
But what if we can sacrifice a couple of hours a day of TV....and replace it with bible study? That may not sit for most of us, but then let us think about. We spend very little time with our creator, who actually gave us all and more. Do we actually remember to pray and give thanks to him when we wake up, or before we go to bed? Yet we never forget our favorite TV programs' schedule. I can't stress the importance of studying God's word and the bible. I will cover the importance of studying the bible next post, but believe me if we really want to know who our Lord is and his plans for us is, then the bible is the way to go.
Here's how my family conducted it. I hope that it can help you as well.

I will cover the importance of studying the bible next post, but believe me if we really want to know who our Lord is and his plans for us is, then the bible is the way to go.
Here's how my family conducted it. I hope that it can help you as well.
- Find a comfortable time- for me and my wife it is after dinner. It is around 7 PM or 8 PM. This way, we have the energy and no more worries for the day. This time spent with the Lord will be the most important time that you will spend, as a family or as a group of people who will study God's word.
- Find a comfortable place- a big spacious place with less noise and distraction is a very good choice since it will facilitate better learning and understanding. The living room will be fine such as long as the TV is off, or better yet a big bedroom. Never have your study in a public place (fast food restaurants, etc) since it is very crowded.
- Prepare the topics and materials beforehand- since we are studying God's word, key preparation is needed. For us, we use the Our Daily Bread as a guide for our bible study. If you don't have it, the internet is helpful. Check on topics, mark the chapter and verses and study it beforehand. In that way, you will have a very smooth bible study.
- Always begin and end the bible study with a prayer- a prayer will guide all of you in how the gathering will go. Always ask the Lord for guidance and wisdom. Thank him for this special gathering. Thank him for the opportunity. Your prayers will further increase your faith and knowledge in God's word.
- Read the bible chapters and verses prayerfully- a bible study is time with the Lord. When we read his words, we are communicating with him, so it's a must that we read it prayerfully. We also must make sure that everybody has a copy of the bible. In that way, they can follow the reading. Also, make sure that everybody is following. If there are some articles related to the verse, then read it afterwards.
- Give your reaction to the readings, and have them react as well- share your personal experiences or knowledge about the bible verses and readings. In this way, you are able to personalize your message and understanding of the word of God. Give a chance for others to express their own personal experiences and ideas. In this way, the believers faith is renewed since he can get tips and knowledge about the word of God. Again, the bible study does not focus on how good someone is at the scriptures. It is a sharing of God's word in the community, so please respect each others opinions. We learn from each.
Deuteronomy 6:6-9King James Version (KJV)
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
